Break out the cherries and party on, Dude!



Apparently, 'tis the season for our furry wildlife friends to let rip and parrrrrrrty. The fruit of unharvested trees will turn to alcohol, which animals feast on and, er, get a little drunk. Witness the example of the badger (that's the critter, not the University of Wisconsin alum) found lying in the middle of a road in Germany. Not dead, just sloshed on alcoholic cherries.

Obama to Russia: Let's Cool the Planet and the Nukes


Today in Moscow, Presidents Barack Obama and Dimitry Medvedev signed a Joint Understanding that commits the United States and Russia to reduce their strategic nuclear warheads.


In his meetings with Russian leaders, President Obama also will focus on cooperation to limit climate change.

Costa Rica is the happiest place in the world, according to an independent research group in Britain because it has built a new economy centered on people and the environment. Part of the evaluation criteria was life satisfaction, life expectancy and ecological footprint. The U.S. ranks 114th.

The green movement of buying food locally is causing more women to go into farming. In both MD and VA, the number of women-owned farms has grown 16% in the last five years.

Women often change careers to go into farming, saying they want to be closer to the land and to share food with others. They tend to have smaller farms with more diverse crops including heirloom varieties.
